Gabriel Alegria and the Afro-Peruvian Jazz Sextet will be at "Dowe's on 9th", on Saturday, January 21, from 7:00 PM until about 9:00 PM, in two 50-minute sets with a break in between them. This club is located at 121 Ninth Street in the Cultural District in downtown Pittsburgh, and the phone number is 412-281-9225. Tickets are $20 per person and $10 per student. Gabriel is the grandchild of the famous peruvian writer Ciro Alegria, author of the novel “El Mundo es Ancho y Ajeno” e hijo de Alonso Alegria (el dramaturgo), se va a presentar con su banda de 6 miembros el Sabado 21 de enero de 7-9 p.m. en el Dowes de la calle 9 (Dowe’s on 9th) en el downtown, 9th street. His family all came from Petrolina, Brazil and are now living at the Ronal McDonald’s House in Shadyside. Mr. Idario Santos is the father. Because of Artur’s illness they have to be in Pittsburgh for 1 year. We all can help with giving Idario a job, or helping him with donations. His recommendation letters are in Portuguese but he speaks English very well. This party and auction will be held Thursday, January 26th at DejaVu Lounge, 2106 Penn Avenue in the Strip District, 6-9:30 PM. Food is being donated by Cozumel Restaurant in Shadyside. Items for auction include an IPod or PSP from Best Buy, gift certificates for Cuzamil Restaurant Downtown, and various theme baskets from local businesses.
