A fines de Mayo:  PITTSBURGH FOLK FESTIVAL!!!!!

I need coordinators for each night and also I need the 3 dances for each night. Although I will be there to assist you in any way, some one else (a coordinator) has to be in charge of each night program.

LACU will present traditional/folkloric dances from Latin America at the Gateway Clipper boats in the month of May.  The dances will show authentic costumes and dresses, as well as the description of each dance.  All LACU people will dress with a traditional costume for each event.

The dances will be 3 dances per show, or approximately 20 minutes if we count introduction.

The total number of LACU shows is 5 in the month of May, and the number of performers allowed per night is 15 people.  Dancers need to show what the Latin American culture is all about by interacting with the high-school students and teachers who come to the boat that night.  We can even show them a little bit of Salsa or Merengue lessons on our spare time in the boat. The idea is to have fun!!!  Only people who are involved in the dances and support personnel will be getting tickets to the boat. No guests are allowed. It is a private function.

Salome Gutierrez (salome+@pitt.edu) is the LACU Dance Coordinator and will hold the boat tickets.  She will coordinate with each “Person in charge of a night”. Let her know if you are interested in becoming that person. This person in charge of a night will be responsible to coordinate all the dances, printed programs, CDs, Stereo Equipment, and costumes for the night.

Gracias!!!   Thanks!!!  Salome Gutierrez. Salome+@pitt.edu

Tell a Friend program.

Rachel Mayo, Cancer Control Specialist from the American Cancer Society, is interested in conducting "Tell a Friend" program for the Latina Community of Pittsburgh. We are planning this as small and very informal meeting to see if the community would be interested in the program. Would any of your friends in LACU be interested in joining us? If possible, we just wanted to get just several people (people who are active in the community) to see if the community would be interested in a bigger program of this nature.  Here's the information about the meeting: April 8th, 2005, at 10:00 am.  "Conference room 2131, formerly known as Tower Lobby", it's located on the 2nd floor of Magee-Womens Hospital. You can park in the parking lot of the hospital, I'll get you complimentary parking stickers. Lunch and a surprize gift will be provided!!!  If interested, please e-mail me or give me a call. (412)303-0394 or e-mail me with any questions.  Faina Linkov.  Magee Womancare International.
