LACU's
repertoire includes but is not limited to dances from Argentina,
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, México, Perú, Puerto Rico and
Venezuela. LACU also organizes and presents workshops that attempt to
familiarize the community with Latin American dances in an active,
participatory manner.
One of the
most artistic and beautiful avenues of cultural expression is found in
the clothing representative of a country or region. These presentations
feature the history and uses of traditional costumes.
The musical
ensemble of LACU has a diverse repertoire that includes pieces from four
principal regions, the Andean region of South America, Brazil, México
and the Caribbean. Native instruments are used to maintain the
authenticity and natural flavor of the music presented. |
An
important activity of LACU is to provide entertaining educational
programs. The lectures may be presented in Spanish, Portuguese or
English, or in a multilingual fashion. The topics for the lectures can
include art, history, literature, and customs.
To promote
culture and fellowship LACU organizes a number of social activities such
as picnics, and dances. These activities offer the community an opportunity to
interact with LACU members in an informal atmosphere.
The LACU supports the only
Spanish/English Newsletter in the region. The NOTICIERO covers local
activities as well as world events affecting the Latin community. |
