Historic PSLC Meeting in Pittsburgh: : "I particularly
like the Tribune Review's article on how we need to have our elected
officials more involved in our community. To those who were able to
join us: thank you! To all: I hope you take advantage of the PSLC
membership (free through 2005, www.pslconline.org). The more members from the Western Region, the
more our voice is heard" (Cathy Bazan-Arias, 9/20/2004).

Latinos gaining higher profile [ Sep 26, 2004, Post Gazette ]
For years, Latinos have been a small and scattered population in Allegheny
County, hardly a community at all. But longtime advocates have jump-started
efforts to change that.

For those that may not be aware of the dedication and work that Professor
Lozano and other community members invested to realize the Latin
American Reading Room and its materials to the Pittsburgh community,
I recommend the Post Gazette article "Pitt
dedicates Latin American Reading Room at Library" and
Pitt's
web site on the Eduardo Lozano Collection. As of 2002, the
Latin American Collection hosts the eighth largest collection of Latin
American resource materials -- literature, periodicals, dissertations,
maps, recordings, videos and films -- in the United States (!). It's a
feather in our cap - thank you, Professor Lozano, for the 30 years of
work you devoted! (Cathy Bazan-Arias)
